Empowering Beauty with Skye Richards

Empowering Beauty with Skye Richards

If we’re talking about Black-owned, non-toxic and eco-conscious, we can only be talking about one thing; Alysium Beauty. With over 630 5-star reviews, the planet-powered beauty brand was founded by CEO and Director, Skye Richards, Alysium Beauty stands as a testament to her dedication to creating natural products to not only enhance but empower.

FORE sat down with Skye to talk about self-care, self-confidence, and why it's always important to read the ingredients label.

Q: How does Alysium Beauty continuously research and improve its ingredient lists to stay at the forefront of using the best and latest natural alternatives available?

“At Alysium Beauty it is one of our main goals to listen directly to our customers' feedback and reviews to make sure our products are the best they can be. We dedicate a lot of time to keeping up to date with the latest ingredients on the market to see if they can improve our current formulas in any way.”

Q: Alysium Beauty's origin story is deeply rooted in your personal journey with natural hair care. How does the brand aim to address the specific needs and challenges faced by individuals in the black community when it comes to hair and skin care?

“Alysium Beauty thrives on being a no nonsense brand, this means that every ingredient added in to our formulas has a reason or benefit to be there unlike mainstream hair care brands. Black hair and skin is extremely under researched which allows commercial brands to pump the products with toxins that they don’t “know” is causing harm. We strive at Alysium Beauty to not only carry out extensive research on the needs of black hair and skin but to provide our customers’ base with key knowledge also.”

Q: In what ways do you see Alysium Beauty contributing to the empowerment and self-confidence of black individuals, particularly those with textured or curly hair?

“Our TikTok account especially has become a safe space for a lot of black women, men and children to ask questions about their hair and skin. This platform has given me as a CEO the ability to connect with my community and teach them knowledge and self love. I have been able to inspire people to wear and love their natural hair, through educating them on how to properly take care and maintain their curls without it being such a chore. Being a brand that not only supplies products, but also the knowledge that is required to use them has helped people on their journey significantly. They trust my word, so they trust my products.”

Q: The harmful effects of certain beauty products on black hair and skin have been a longstanding concern. How does Alysium Beauty advocate for safer alternatives and raise awareness about ingredient transparency within the black community?

“We use our platform to educate people on what they should and shouldn’t be putting in their hair or on their skin. One of our main goals during our rebrand is to completely break down our ingredient lists to show exactly why each item has been added to the product. We create content across our social media platforms breaking down the cosmetic industry and making sure our customers are aware of the warning signs they should be looking out for when shopping for cosmetics.”
